Capitals Shut Out Lightning; Clinch Spot in Stanley Cup Finals

By: Nick Pooler

The Washington Capitals are headed to the Stanley Cup Finals. The Caps’ are in the Finals for the first time since the 1997-98 season where they got swept. They have never won a Stanley Cup and have only been just that one time. This is their second Conference Championship after their 4-0 victory over Tampa Bay tonight. Alexander Ovechkin finally got his wishes to come true. He has done it all except for go to a Stanley Cup and now here he is.

He got the scoring going very early just a minute into the game. Andre Burakovsky put two in for the Capitals and Nicklas Backstrom had the other. Braden Holtby also played one of the best games he ever has as he shut out the Lightning in the pivotal game seven. The Capitals showed something they never have before and that was the ability to finish in playoff games. They made sure this happened and with that being said, they now have secured themselves a spot in the next round.

Two franchises who have never won a title. The Golden Knights in their inaugural year have defied all odds and await the Capitals in the next round. This is for sure going to be an electrifying series with two teams who have nothing to lose and should leave it all on the ice. I am looking at the goalie matchup of Marc-Andre Fleury and Holtby. It is for sure going to be good and it will all come down to who wants it more. First game will start Sunday night at 8:00 PM in Vegas and will air on NBC. Make sure not to miss out.
