The Philadelphia 76ers have made their second big trade of the season and it could push them to the top of the Eastern Conference. The 76ers and Clippers agreed to a deal that would send Tobias Harris, Boban Marjanovic, and Mike Scott to Philly. While sending Wilson Chandler, Landry Shamet, Mike Muscala, Philly’s 2020 first round pick, Miami’s 2021 first round pick, and two second round picks to LA.
This gives the 76ers the second best starting lineup on paper in the league. Simmons, Reddick, Butler, Harris, and Embid. They’re going all in this year, there’s no question about that. Already top 5 in the East, and only 6 games out of the top spot, this move could be the boost Philly needs.
Harris has averaged 20.9 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game so far this season. He poses as another offensive threat on this 76ers roster, and really makes them a possible offensive powerhouse. The only problem still remaining is the team’s lack of depth. They’ve exhausted what production off the bench they had in the trade for Butler and this. T.J. Mcconnel and Marjanovic are the only to players on this team that can come off of the bench and produce. So the 76ers better hope none of their starters get hurt. These guys are gonna have to play a lot of minutes in the playoffs for this team to go all the way.
Looking into the future. This 76ers roster could very easily stay on top of the East for years to come if they manage to resign everyone. But if they lose anyone in free agency they are back to being a team with a couple of great players and no supporting cast. And even if they hold onto everyone they now have very few draft picks over the next couple of years. So the possibility of them getting top young talent is slim. Either way, Philly is in a great position going into the back half of the season. Given that there are no internal struggles, I expect Philadelphia to at least be in the Eastern Conference Finals, if not the NBA Finals. They have the offensive firepower and defensive ability to beat everyone in the East. Then again, I thought that adding Jimmy Butler would be enough for them to take the top seed. But all we can do at this point is sit back and watch.
