Pascal Siakam scored 32 points in his franchises Finals debut Thursday night in their victory over Golden State 118-109. This went along with 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Teammate Kawhi Leonard scored 23 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Both players led a huge spark for Toronto fans to follow. They were just 2 of 5 Toronto players in double figures, Marc Gasol had 20 points and 7 rebounds in his Finals debut. Danny Green had 11 points while Fred VanVleet, former Wichita State standout, had 15.
On the other side, Steph Curry led the way with 34 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists. Draymond Green had his third straight double-double (10-10-10), and Klay Thompson had 21 points and 5 rebounds.
DeMarcus Cousins made his comeback tonight to play in his first ever NBA Finals but he was not much help for the night. Cousins finished with 3 points and 2 assists in just 8 minutes of play.
This was the first NBA Finals game played outside of the United States. Also, the Warriors had one all four of the Game 1’s in the last four years. This is the first time during their reign that that did not happen. Golden State does not have home-court advantage this time around.
Game 2 will be Sunday night back at it in Toronto.
