The Toronto Raptors let the Warriors have one in game 5, they were not going to let their second chance slip through their hands. 114-110 was the final score Thursday night as the NBA crowned a new NBA Champion the Toronto Raptors.

Kawhi Leonard took home the Bill Russell MVP award averaging 28.2 PPG in the Finals. Leonard also won the Finals MVP back in 2014 when he led the San Antonio Spurs to the title. He joins Kareem Abdul-Jabaar and LeBron James as the only 3 players to win the Finals MVP with multiple teams.

Kyle Lowry led the way for Toronto in game 6 finishing with 26 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists. Pascal Siakam also had 26 points and 10 rebounds. Leonard capped off his spectacular season with 22 points and 6 rebounds. Fred VanVleet played outstanding off the bench for the Raptors as well finishing with 22 points including some huge three’s down the final stretch.

The Raptors made a gutsy trade in the offseason when they shocked the NBA world by trading franchise star DeMar Derozan to Spurs for Leonard and Danny Green. The gamble turned out give Toronto a championship. Toronto also acquired Marc Gasol at the deadline and saw the rise of Siakam. Teaming that with Leonard, Green, Serge Ibaka, VanVleet, and Lowry led to this great team.

Klay Thompson had 30 points for the Warriors and only played 31 minutes. He left in the 3rd quarter after an awkward fall with his knee on a landing from a fastbreak dunk attempt. He shot the two free throws but was immediately taken out of the game and announced out for the rest of the game.

Raptors coach Nick Nurse wins the championship in his first ever NBA season as a head coach. Lowry also had the first 11 points of the game for the Raptors.

Steph Curry seemed to be double teamed a majority of the game and finished with 21 points and 7 assists. Draymond Green had another triple-double with 11-19-13 but it also included 8 turnovers. Andre Iguodala chimed in doing his part with 22 points. The Warriors had gone to the last 5 NBA finals as they played their final game ever in the Oracle Arena.

Now, the drama awaits for what is going to happen in the NBA this offseason. Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving are just some names to look for. Leonard would be on this list, but after this championship, anything can happen.

For now, Toronto can have the parade they have desperately been waiting for. Congratulations Canada!
