Boxer Tyrone Oliver Suffers First Professional Loss

Tyrone Oliver, a young professional boxer from the Bahamas, suffered a loss in his first international bout against American fighter Christian Otero. The fight took place at the Jamil Shrine Temple in Columbia, Missouri on Saturday night, and Otero won via unanimous decision. Despite the setback, Oliver remained optimistic and posted on social media that it was just a minor setback for a major comeback, thanking everyone who supported him and promising to come back stronger.

The Oliver vs Otero bout was part of the James Toney Promotions and Vyre Sports event called “Boxing with Lights Out,” which featured 10 fights. Otero, a former New York City Golden Gloves amateur champion, made his professional debut in the fight against Oliver. James Toney Promotions, established in 2018, has been hosting events in smaller markets that have been most affected by the pandemic. They have eight events planned from October 2020 to the end of 2021.

Oliver made his professional debut in May 2018 at the first Bahamian Sons Sports and Entertainment, Backyard Rumble event, where he defeated Justin Sawyer. He followed it up with another win, a first-round stoppage over Tureano Nicols from Jamaica. Both events were held in Grand Bahama. Despite the loss to Otero, Oliver’s previous victories and determination to bounce back are signs that he has a promising future in the sport.
