Future Sailing Stars Shine at K.P.M.G Youth Championship

The K.P.M.G Youth Winter Championship was held by The Nassau Yacht Club and Bahamas National Sailing School with 50 young sailors participating. The event had three fleets, including Laser, Sunfish, and Optimist boats, and was crucial for the Optimist sailors as it determined the best finishers for representation at international events.

The event faced challenging weather conditions with low winds on Saturday and high winds on Sunday. The Green Fleet, consisting of young and inexperienced sailors, completed four races on Saturday. On Sunday, six races were completed, excluding the Green Fleet, and winners were announced for each fleet.

Casey Dean from Harbour Island Sailing Club won the Optimist Green Fleet, and Craig Ferguson of The Bahamas National Sailing School won the Optimist Championship fleet. Petrus Maritz from The Royal Nassau Sailing Club won the Sunfish fleet, and Joshua Weech from The Nassau Yacht Club won the Laser class.

Trophies were awarded to the top three finishers in each fleet. The Bahamas National Sailing School expressed their gratitude to K.P.M.G for sponsoring the event and thanked parents, volunteers, and The Nassau Yacht Club for their assistance and hospitality. The event has been held annually since 2015 and is a significant junior sailing event in The Bahamas.
