Bahamas Rugby Team Shows Progress in International Tournament

The Bahamas senior men’s national rugby team ended their Rugby Americas North Sevens Qualifiers campaign with a 31-21 loss to Guyana on Sunday. The team managed to secure a 26-12 win against the British Virgin Islands but lost all other matches.

Head coach Joshua Purcell praised the team’s progress and mindset after the BVI game, highlighting the importance of participating in international tournaments. The team’s captain Justin Lewis also noted the progress shown in the Sunday win.

The team aims to build on their youth program, which was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The event’s organizer, Adam Waterhouse, highlighted the Bahamas’ potential to host world-class rugby tournaments, setting a benchmark for competitions in the region.

Canada won both the men’s and women’s division and secured a spot in the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022. Jamaica also qualified for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
