The Nassau Yacht Club hosted the prestigious Cecil G Cooke Memorial Junior Regatta on October 22-23. Twelve-year-old Finley McKinney-Lambert won the overall title, with Patrick Tomlinson and Craig Ferguson placing second and third in the Optimist championship fleet.

The regatta saw 58 young sailors, aged between six and 16 years old, competing in Optimists, Sunfish, and Laser sailboats in the beautiful Montagu Bay. The regatta was initiated by Sandra Cooke in 2014 to honor her father, a Bahamian sailing legend who won the first-ever gold medal for The Bahamas at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.

This annual regatta has become one of the most popular multi-class junior championships in the country. The event was sponsored by Insurance Management, Darville Packaging, and Pioneer Brite. The next major event on the junior sailing calendar is The Optimist North American Championship, which will be hosted at The Nassau Yacht Club from November 13-20.
