Former Beacon School Student Dominates Down Swimming Championships

Dorian Williams, a former student of the Beacon School in Grand Bahama, recently competed in the inaugural British Down Syndrome swimming championships, winning gold and silver medals in two events. The competition, held at K2 Crawley in November, was open to all British swimmers with Down Syndrome. Dorian, who currently lives in the UK with his mother Katrina Hodge, aims to qualify for the Special Olympics in 2023 and the Paralympic Games. He competed in eight events, achieving top rankings in several other races in addition to his medal-winning performances. Dorian’s success illustrates the importance of inclusion in sports for differently-abled children, and the need for a specific category for swimmers with Down Syndrome at the Paralympics to ensure fair competition.
