The Bahamas’ junior cyclists, Livingston ‘Launy’ Duncombe and Aydan Bain, gave a commendable performance in their debut race at the Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships in the Dominican Republic. The boys, aged 15 and 14, respectively, were the youngest competitors in the tournament but managed to finish both the individual time trial and the road race. In the time trial, Duncombe secured the ninth position with a timing of 16 minutes and 29.87 seconds while Bain followed him in the tenth position with 16:37.24. The road race was tougher, but Duncombe came 13th in 1:59.30 and Bain secured 19th in 2:10.28.

Despite wanting to send a bigger team, the federation was only able to send the two boys because of school exams. The coach, Shirley Mireault, expressed her pride in the young cyclists and hoped to take a larger team next year. President Roy Colebrooke praised their performance and predicted an even better showing in the next championship.

The federation also ensured that the boys completed their schoolwork while participating in the event.
