“Marvelous” Marvin Johnson Named Swimmer of the Year

Marvin Johnson, a Bahamian junior swimmer, was awarded Swimmer of the Year by the Tennessee Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association after breaking state records in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events. Known as “Marvelous,” Johnson is considered one of the fastest junior swimmers in his country and the region, ranking among the fastest Bahamian swimmers of all time. Johnson has set his sights on the upcoming CARIFTA Championships in Curaçao, where he hopes to challenge championship records in the 50 and 100-meter freestyle events.

Other top contenders include his Jamaican teammate Nelson Denny and Cayman Islands’ star James Allison. Johnson aims to lead the senior CARIFTA sprint field and potentially become the first swimmer to break the 51-second mark in the 100-meter freestyle and sub-23 in the 50-meter freestyle.
