“This is for the people with a dollar and a dream”

Bahamian coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin led the University of Mississippi Lady Rebels women’s basketball team to victory against the Stanford Cardinal, a three-time national champion and the number one seeded team in the Seattle 4 Region. The Rebels won 54-49, securing their spot in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament for the first time in 16 years.

McPhee-McCuin, who started her career at Frank Phillips College in Texas, thanked her team and expressed her gratitude for the victory. The Lady Rebels relied heavily on defense to defeat the ninth seeded Gonzaga University Bulldogs in the first round of the tournament. They went on to take control of the game early against the Cardinal and led throughout the first half. Stanford made an attempt but the Rebels scored the final five points of the game to secure the victory. The team will now face the Louisville Cardinals in their next game.
