Freshman Keyshawn Strachan Smashes Javelin World Record

Keyshawn Strachan, a freshman at Auburn University, made waves in the world of track and field over the weekend with his record-breaking performance in the javelin. At the Texas Relays, Strachan set a national record and a world-leading mark with a throw of 276-feet, 5-inches or 84.27 meters.

Strachan, who is 19 years old, was thrilled with his performance and attributed his success to his faith and preparation. He had previously set the national record at the CARIFTA Games in Kingston, Jamaica, with a throw of 79.89 meters.

In addition to his record-breaking throw, Strachan also had a legal throw of 258-11 (72.82m) on his fifth attempt. He hopes to continue to improve with each meet he competes in.

While Strachan will take a break this weekend to watch the CARIFTA Games, he will be back in action in two weeks for his next meet. He encouraged his fellow Bahamian athletes to do their best and offered support, especially to his younger sister, Kamera Strachan, who is also competing at the games.
