After a two-year hiatus, professional boxing returned to The Bahamas with a bang. First Class Promotions staged a thrilling card that saw Jaimie Mitchell lift the World Boxing Association (WBA) International bantam world title after defeating Canadian Lindsay Garbatt in a 10-round match. Mitchell won on a split decision, improving her record to 9-1-2, while Garbatt’s record dropped to 10-9-2. O’Shea Jones also won another bout by split decision against Simone Silva in the welterweight division, despite being the less experienced fighter on paper. Jones was impressive throughout, controlling the fight all night and improving her record to 3-0-0.

Michelle Minus, the head of First Class Promotions, expressed her happiness with the quality of fights, and even planned another event for October featuring an all-female lineup, with a battle for the Commonwealth title. The profits made from the night were donated to Ray Minus Jr., who was honored for his contributions to boxing in The Bahamas over the years. Minus, who suffers from ALS, was present at the event and even did a shuffle for fans.

The two boxers put on a great show for the fans at the gym, with Mitchell and Garbatt landing some hard punches and combinations. Mitchell looked like she controlled the 10th round, but Garbatt started attacking more and won that final round 30-28. However, it was not enough to secure the victory for Garbatt, as Mitchell was crowned the new bantamweight champion. The event showcased the best of boxing and marked the beginning of a new era for boxing in The Bahamas.
