Miami Marlins’ centre fielder Jasrado “Jazz” Chisholm Jr left the game early with a stinger in his right shoulder after attempting a steal in the first inning of yesterday’s 5-2 win against the Minnesota Twins. Chisholm led off the game with a single but was caught stealing second base and appeared to get hurt after colliding with Minnesota second baseman Kyle Farmer. He slid head-first into Farmer’s left leg and remained down on the field for a few minutes after the play.
Chisholm later said he felt numbness in his upper body area immediately afterward and couldn’t lift his arm to get himself off the ground, but regained feeling a few minutes later when he went to the locker room.
Despite not being assessed for a possible concussion, Chisholm stated his intention to play in the upcoming game against the New York Mets, expressing his determination to keep playing until he physically can’t. “I will keep playing until I can’t be out there anymore,” said Chisholm.
Bryan De La Cruz replaced Chisholm in center field after he left the game. It was the first time Chisholm had experienced anything like this, and he admitted to feeling panicked as his neck started getting stiff. Despite the injury, Miami was able to secure a win against Minnesota.
