The Government High School (GHS) Magic and C.R. Walker Knights have advanced to the senior boys division championship of the Government Secondary Schools Sports Association (GSSSA) with victories at the Roscow A.L. Davies Soccer Field. The Magic narrowly defeated the R.M. Bailey Pacers 2-1, thanks to a late goal by Wilder Petit-Homme. Petit-Homme’s aerial kick found the top-left corner of the goal, leaving the Pacers’ goalkeeper helpless. Melvin Miller, the Magic’s head coach, commended the Pacers for providing a tough challenge and credited their game plan for the victory.
In a closely contested match, the Pacers took the lead early in the second half with a goal by Ralph Hercule. However, Peter Tilusnord equalized for the Magic seven minutes later. Although the Pacers saved two penalty shots by the Magic, the defending champions emerged victorious and remain undefeated in the GSSSA this season. They will face the Knights in the championship game, setting up a rematch of their regular-season draw.
The Knights’ Lamond Cross played a pivotal role in their 3-1 victory over the Anatol Rodgers Timberwolves, scoring a hat trick. Cross was motivated to avenge their regular-season defeat against the Timberwolves and carried his team with his exceptional performance. He scored two goals in the first half, one from the penalty spot and another from open play. Following his coach Kellon Lewis’s instructions to be more aggressive in the second half, Cross completed his hat trick with a direct free kick. The Timberwolves managed to pull one goal back late in the second half through Mackin Cherie.
All teams are preparing for the upcoming championship matches with confidence and determination.
