At the prestigious Gyulai Istvan Memorial in Szekesfehervar, Hungary, Steven Gardiner, the talented Bahamian sprinter, showcased his brilliance by claiming victory in the men’s 400 meters. Notably, he not only clinched the title but also lowered his own meet record with an astounding time of 43.74 seconds, surpassing his previous record of 44.30 set back in 2015. It was an impressive feat for the 27-year-old athlete, especially after returning from an injury earlier this year.

In a press conference before the race, Gardiner expressed his confidence, feeling like his “old self” again. This remarkable victory serves as a boost to his morale as he gears up for the World Championships in Budapest next month. Gardiner’s achievements are remarkable, having secured the world title in 2019 with a lifetime and Bahamian national record of 43.48, followed by claiming the Olympic Games title in 2020.

Behind Gardiner, Rusheen McDonald, representing Jamaica, secured second place with his second-fastest time ever of 44.03.
