Bahamian sprinter Anthonique Strachan, aged 30, wrapped up her senior career’s best season with a commendable performance in the women’s 200 meters at the World Athletics Diamond League Final, held during the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, USA.

Strachan showcased her speed by clocking 22.16 seconds, marking her second-fastest time ever, just a hair behind her 22.15-second run at the Meeting International Mohammed VI d’Athletisme de Rabat in Rabat, Morocco, in May. In the preceding month, at the 19th World Outdoor Championships in Budapest, Hungary, she consistently ran in the 22.30-second range, followed by 22.65 seconds at the Weltklasse Zürich Diamond League Meet in Zürich, Switzerland, and 22.31 seconds at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme Diamond League Meet in Brussels, Belgium.

Eager to conclude her season on a high note, Strachan delivered a solid third-place finish. Jamaican sprinter Shericka Jackson, a two-time World Champion and the second-fastest woman ever over 200 meters, dominated the event, setting a meet record of 21.57 seconds and claiming the Diamond League title for 2023. Marie-Josée Ta Lou from the Ivory Coast secured the second spot in 22.10 seconds, while Strachan settled for third. For Strachan, this achievement marked her highest-ever finish in a Diamond League final.

She justified her qualification for the final with her strong performance and earned a well-deserved prize of $7,000.
