Shyrone Kemp Named NSIC Male Field Indoor Athlete of the Year

Shyrone Kemp, a senior at Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSU), is making waves in the track and field world as he heads into the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division II championships. Hailing from Grand Bahama, Kemp’s remarkable talent has earned him the title of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Male Field Indoor Athlete of the Year.

At the NSIC Indoor Championships, Kemp showcased his prowess, setting a new personal best in the long jump with a remarkable leap of 24-11.75 (7.61m). Under the guidance of his coach Barry, Kemp has thrived, attributing his success to their dedicated program and trust in each other.

Kemp’s dominance extended to the high jump, where he clinched victory with another personal best clearance of 6-10 3/4 (2.10m). His versatility shone through as he secured his fifth consecutive NSIC indoor title in the triple jump, recording an impressive mark of 51-10 1/2 (15.81m), ranking second in Division II.

Expressing his passion for the triple jump, Kemp acknowledges the hard work required to excel in his favorite event. Kemp’s stellar performance at the conference meet earned him the title of NSIC’s high point scorer, demonstrating his exceptional talent and dedication.

Kemp proudly represents MSU alongside fellow Bahamian athletes, including Latrell Taylor, Tyler Missick, Elkan Johnson, and Shavantae Roberts. Their collective achievements highlight the talent emerging from the Bahamas and showcase their determination on the track. With Kemp leading the charge, the Dragons are poised for continued success on the national stage.
